Selected Quotes
1. Lao Ma: This chapter flashes back to the church massacre. After Volume 1, we know it happened but not exactly how.We witness the beginning while knowing every outcome, like knowing people will die yet being unable to save them, creating deep regret.
Tarantino slows time as everyone speaks leisurely about seating. Narratively trivial details intensify sorrow because viewers know they will die while the characters do not know doom is near.
2. Lao Ma:Tarantino sometimes exposes the failure of profanity and language. A slur cannot define the woman or Black person it targets; they do not lose simply by being insulted. Narrative and definitional authority remain with the person.
3. Ah Wu: Pregnancy is the fundamental reason the Bride escapes Bill’s control.Does maternal motivation count as awakening in the fullest sense?Radical feminism might say no, but the film’s process and result still have great emancipatory force.
