01:27TNR begins with humane intentions and seeks humane results—the essence of humanitarian action.

06:55A humanitarian response to crisis minimizes suffering as far as possible.

09:05Neutering is common, yet conceals a deep anthropocentrism.

13:56‘It is not that the cat cannot live without me; I cannot live without the cat.’

15:58Can we know what cats think? How should, and how can, humans consider them?

21:36Human conduct should be judged fairly.

23:45Animal instinct, population size, and natural regulation.

26:15Should we reconsider a world in which humans decide whether animals live or die?

32:50In an already unnatural environment, should we ask how animals can be treated as kindly as possible?

44:00Seeing animals suffer during surgery makes us ask: must neutering always be done?

TNR is a program for stray cats and dogs: Trap, Neuter, and Release. Before TNR, cities commonly controlled stray companion-animal populations through killing or euthanasia. Replacing killing with sterilization, TNR is now widely regarded as one of the most humane and scientifically effective ways to control local stray-cat populations.
