那个年轻的狱卒发觉囚犯们每次体格检查时身长的逐月增加都是在脖子之后，他报告典狱长说：「长官，窗子太高了！」而他得到的回答却是：「不，他们瞻望岁月。」
仁慈的青年狱卒，不识岁月的容颜，不知岁月的籍贯，不明岁月的行踪；乃夜夜往动物园中，到长颈鹿园下，去逡巡，去守候。
