Yang Zhao moves beyond a Han-centered dynastic story to examine Chinggis Khan, Mongol institutions, Eurasian conquest, and the Yuan as the empire’s eastern branch.
The course asks how Mongol rule collided with Chinese political traditions, why assimilation remained limited, and how trade, population categories, knowledge, and global connections reshaped China.
