Background
In the early hours of June 10, 2022, a violent assault at a barbecue restaurant in Tangshan, Hebei Province, drew widespread public attention and had a profoundly harmful social impact.
This was a highly random act of violence in a public place: several powerfully built men attacked a group of unarmed women. It differed sharply from domestic violence or sexual harassment and assault arising from unequal power relationships.
